Nokia’s next camera superphone is coming: here's what to expect

n just a few days, on July 11th, Nokia will hold an event in New York and everyone expects to finally see the Nokia EOS, a truly revolutionary cameraphone packing the true PureView 41-megapixel camera and running on Windows Phone 8.

The name of the actual handset is not yet known. It initially leaked out under the Nokia EOS moniker, but the latest report speculate it could end up being called Nokia Lumia 1020 or even Nokia Lumia 909, following in the footsteps of the 808 PureView.

What seems certain though is that early on Thursday morning, Nokia’s keynote will show the future for smartphone cameras and the device it unveils could be a big push for the Windows Phone platform to finally start getting traction.

So what’s the fuss all about? The Nokia EOS aka Lumia 1020 aka Lumia 909 has leaked out countless times and here is how those whispers picture it:

a 4.5 inch AMOLED HD+ PureMotion screen
a 768 x 1280 resolution, pixel density of 332ppi
Adreno 320 graphics
41-megapixel camera with Xenon flash and single LED
stereo audio recording
2000mAh battery
polycarbonate body coming in at least four colors: black, yellow, red and white
The camera technology is its key feature, of course. The 41-megapixel camera has the same huge sensor we saw on the Symbian-based Nokia 808 PureView,
but this time Nokia seems to have managed to shrink it down in a reasonably thin body. The big sensor should make it possible to shoot noise-free images in low light and it’d support up to 6 times of lossless zoom.

In addition to great hardware, Nokia and Microsoft might have finally found a way to bring awesome camera apps like Instagram to Windows Phone. Many people are using Instagram not just for its great vintage filters but for the community, and that’s something Windows Phone is missing right now. Nokia’s new Pro Cam app will allegedly be the default camera application on the new smartphone.

What about its launch? Good news is that Nokia is allegedly ready to pull its act together and the release date for the Nokia EOS should be soon after its official unveiling, possibly in August.

We’ll be covering the event live as it happens, and you can also watch Nokia’s livestream at Nokia Conversations. The event kicks off on Thursday, July 11th, 11:00am ET | 8:00am PT.

Lemon Mobiles launches A4 Android phone with 1080p display

Lemon Mobiles today announced the launch of its first full HD display smartphone – A4. Part of the company’s Aspirational series, Lemon A4 has been priced at INR 17,999, and is the cheapest available 1080p display smartphone in the Indian market.

According to a press release issued by the company, Lemon A4 features a 5-inch 1920x1080p display, 13-megapixel rear camera, 1.2GHz quad-core processor and Android 4.2. These are some pretty impressive specifications for the given price-tag and would certainly cut down the sales of other budget phablets that comes with 720p displays.

In addition, A4 comes with 5-megapixel front camera, 16GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, HDMI/MHL out, and 1850 mAh battery. The battery seems to be a concern here as such a big display need more power and with just 1850 mAh on-board, the phone would not even last a day.

“We are delighted to launch the new smart phone in Aspirational series. The Full HD quality and a user friendly interface were our two main goals in branding. Prior to the launch, we studied and tested hundreds of possible phone types with a core group of customers. This is our first step towards enabling our consumers to experience the high quality of communications,” said Sandeep Mushran, Co-Founder & Director Fastrack Communications Pvt Ltd.

The phone will be available in the coming days.

Micromax Canvas 4 revealed

Update: While, we wait for the Canvas 4 launch event to begun, we have confirmed that the specifications revealed by us (check below) earlier, are official. Here is the official key specs sheet.

Thanks to a trusted source, we have got the full specs sheet of Micromax Canvas 4 A210, which will be officially launched on July 8 and is currently on pre-order at the company e-store.

In contrast to the rumours, our source tells us that Micromax Canvas 4 packs a 720p IPS HD display and not 1080p full HD as is being rumoured. The display size is 5-inches same as its predecessor A116 Canvas HD.

The smartphone will be powered by 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 SoC. It also features 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot.

On the imaging front, Micromax Canvas 4 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front shooter. In addition, the phone will come with 2,000 mAh battery and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The phone measures 8.9mm in thickness and weighs 145 grams. Micromax Canvas 4 frame is made of aluminium, but the rest of the body including the back-cover is plastic.

The final pricing is still a mystery but is said to be around INR 16,000- INR 17,000. The company would have liked to price it cheaper but the depreciation in the value of rupee against dollar hasn’t helped.

Top Windows 8 app 05. Twitter

05. Twitter

The official Twitter app for Windows 8 doesn't do much beyond the basics of displaying your timeline and your mentions, and it could certainly use a fresh lick of paint in the interface department.

However, what it does do well is dock to the side of the screen - you can view your tweets while working on the desktop or running another Windows 8 app, and for this feature alone it's worth installing on your Start screen.
